Paper is a wonderous thing.

My boy has always been able to impress me with the things he can do with paper. He usually requires a bit of tape as well but his imagination goes wild with some scrap pieces of paper (some times a lot of pieces) and some tape. He has made a house, a quiver full of arrows, and a pet dog to name a few. While at my family reunion this past summer he even sold paper airplanes and boats to all his relatives - much to the surprise of his older cousins who quickly jumped on board and we had lots of airplanes and boats sitting around.

Things haven't changed here on the island either - although I try not to give him so much tape because we are trying to make it last. Becaue of the tape restriction he decided he could use staples for his envelopes instead. He remembered how to make the paper boats and airplanes but that wasn't enough. He made hats - his favorite one looks like Kevin's old air force "hat" that he worn as part of his uniform every day for work. Still, he wanted more. I showed him how to make one of those little game things, where you put your fingers in and can move it around (you probably don't know what I'm talking about) but that was good for at least one entire day. Then we found the instructions for the printers four corner newspaper hats. He was elated!

Then I showed him the paper cube! He was excited and eager to do it as we made each fold on the paper. He was a little worried that we might not be able to figure it out or get the paper tucked in just right. He was amazed as I blew air into the little hole and "voila" it was a cube (with a little manipulation to make the edges just right). He was so excited that we made another set of cubes together. Then he grabbed some paper and was out my bedroom door to show his sisters how to make them. At some point between opening the door and getting to his sisters he must have found something more exciting because he never came to get me so I could help him show his sisters. Oh well. I wonder what we can make next?
The interesting thing is that because of all the humidity the paper is "wet" all the time. My paper calendar that I have on my fridge always seems damp, especially when it rains. I don't remember that happening in the humidity of Mississippi but maybe I just didn't notice.
And speaking of paper - the toilet paper, paper towels and napkins are not quite the same caliber as in the States. I can hardly clean my kids faces and hands with a wet paper towel and I won't talk about the toilet paper because I don't think you really want to hear about it. I guess the napkins are okay. We haven't even tried the tissues so I can't report on that. Just thought I'd let you know.
