This is the gist of our breakfast conversation that occurred on December 10th.
E - Mom, there's a bug in my oatmeal.
Me - No, Emily, it's just a dark part of the oat.
E - Mom, there's really a bug in my oatmeal.
Me - Let me see.... Okay, it's a bit suspect so I'll take it out.
E - Mom, there's another bug in my oatmeal.
Me - Come on, Emily.
E - Really.
Me - Okay... yes that looks like a bug.
K - Ant.
B - We all have bugs.
Brittany - You could have waited until I was done.
At this point, we all became more aware of what was in our bowl of oatmeal. The picking began. I would give you a total count of the bugs I pulled out of my bowl, Emily's bowl, and Kemiah's bowl, but I think it's best just to say there were several.
M - Mom, stop worrying about the bugs. Just eat them.
You know you and your children have adjusted to life in a 3rd world country when they say something like that.
M - I just ate another bug! (She actually said this with a smile.)
We all ate what we had in our bowls. Ben, Marissa and Emily all asked for second helpings. I did toss out the rest of the oats in the tub when I saw the live bugs crawling around. Chalk it all up to another island experience!
