Large small critters

Well, the past few days we have seen some pretty cool bugs. One was on our stroller and blended in fairly well. It was a rather large beetle type bug. Marissa was brave enough to touch it, as was Ben, but neither one of them wanted to try and hold it. Here it is with Marissa's finger next to it.

Here you can see Marissa enjoying touching it - her tongue is twisted in her mouth.

Today, as we arrived at the pool, we met some friends and also found this caterpillar. This one didn't blend in very well at all but it was really neat looking. Here it is on a male grown-ups hand. It was fat, and soft and squishy with fat short legs. I'm not sure what the long thing on it's tail is for. A local man told us what it eats and said it would turn into a butterfly. I was tempted to take it home, put it in a jar, feed it and watch what happened. I'd like to see what kind of butterfly comes from this crazy bug.

Ben wasn't interested in holding it but Emily was. She was nervous at first but, once she held it and knew it was not a big deal, she carried it around for a really long time. Xiomara had no desire whatsoever to hold it or touch it.

We are certainly living on the wild side of life and having a great time. I'll have to post one about swimming because we had a couple new fish in the water. We also went to bed tonight with red skin - I'm not very good at applying the sunscreen more than once and really you have to if you stay out for more than 2 hours (or 4 like we did).
