This is what most of the plugs for the appliances look like down here.
You can clearly see that they don't look the same and you can't simply plug the plug into the hole. You have to have one of these...
And just because you have one of those, doesn't mean the plug is going to fit nicely. The fans we just bought must have smaller posts so they don't fit snugly. They are loose and it's a little scary. But most of the time it works fine and they allow you to plug in the American plugs for all the power cords to laptops, battery chargers, toasters and so forth. It also allows you to plug more than one thing in so that is nice. Just another one of the interesting things on the island.
Notice the two buttons on the outlet - yes, they turn the outlets on and off. I guess that's a good thing but it's also a temptation for little fingers. They love playing with switches.
