Tried something new!

I wanted to make our Mexically Soup for dinner Saturday night. Well, we didn't have two items that I have to have when I eat the soup: sour cream and tortilla chips. First problem was solved easily - I called the Tomato and ordered two 12 oz containers and they delivered them to my house! Great. Now for the chips. Fortunately, I found a recipe online to make homemade chips from flour tortillas. Unfortunately, I didn't have any tortillas on hand. Fortunately, I can make them from scratch! So I got to work, made some tortillas and then cut them up and baked them. Wow! Dinner was only 20 minutes late! Oops. I must tell you that everyone raved about them! They were good - not the same as store bought, or course, but good.

Of course, you can't try a new recipe and have everything turn out perfect. It didn't happen for me this time. I went back into the kitchen during dinner thinking I might have left the oven on. Sure enough, it was burning gas away. I turned it off and then thought, "Are the trays still in there?" Sure enough, there were more in there and they were no longer edible. I called them "The New Chocolate Chips." Due to the bad smell (burnt tortillas smell burnt) I tossed them and then took the kitchen bag out to the street. Oh well. At least we had plenty for dinner and some for leftovers!

We ate some leftovers for lunch yesterday and they were okay. Maybe if I had put them in the oven for a little while to warm them and re-crisp them, they would have been better but they weren't as good out of the refrigerator. Of course, I ate several of them anyway because they were better than nothing.
