Some little visitors.

The last few days we have had a few different visitors. No, I'm not talking about the families we have had stay with us as they moved down to the island - although that was totally fun and worth mentioning. These critters are of a smaller size and variety of species.

First we had the hermit crab that decided to climb the mosquito net at our back door. It was pretty high up so I took a few pictures and helped it down. Emily and Xiomara enjoyed holding it when I was done taking pictures.

As I was photographing the crab I opened the door to get a better shot and found our second visitor. Maybe I've sent pictures of these little geckos before but I thought this was great with the crayon next to it for comparison. The crayon just happened to be there, as did the gecko. It is so tiny.

The next visitor was the yucky kind because I just don't like spiders. I was getting stuff ready for a trip to the beach and when I went to fold up a towel I caught sight of it. I dropped the towel and decided to take a picture or two. It was a strange spider, missing one leg. It would fold up and lay flat and try to hide in the fold on the towel. I took pictures and let it go. I was tempted to kill it, but chose not to. Most fortunately the towel had been outside so the spider had just taken refuge in a warm and dry place, and was not in the house.

The last one I will share with you today probably lives in my roof but must have gotten lost or was very tired. As our new friends arrived last week someone saw this little guy on our fence. Kevin came in a called all the kids outside and the adults too so we could all see this little "mouse with wings" (that's what Kevin calls them). I was one of the last to make it out and took a few pictures. Then I asked Ben if he wanted to try and have it hang from his finger. Ben promptly said, "Dad said not to touch it because it might bite me and it could make me sick." Well, it's a good thing I wasn't the first one to find it because I wanted it to hang from my finger and may not have thought about it biting me and giving me rabies. The last picture is of Kevin's hand right next to the bat for a comparison.

What a FUN post! i love MOST of your visitors... HATE the spider-- that one looks like and adolescent version of the dinosaur spider that met his match at my house... fun!

oh that reminds me so much of the creatures that lurked in our place when we lived there! a geko actually attacked me...ok maybe not that dramatic, but it was terrifying for me! good luck with keeping them at bay!!!!

I would not be too excited to see the spider - but the gecko and the hermit crab are lots of fun. The bat would be neat to see too. What an adventure!
