This one I found in the basket of our tandem stroller. Not sure why it decided to die there but it was neat to look at. The body is 1 1/2 inches long and 2 inches from tip of wing to tip of wing. Kevin has seen some that are as big as his hand (or bigger).
This one was found on campus and we brought it home to see if we could watch it spin a cocoon and see what kind of butterfly it turns into. Unfortunately, it died on the trip home.
This is one of the types of millipedes we have here. This one is red in color but there are some that are striped. Either way I love to watch them walk with all those legs moving perfectly. This one was about 5 cm long.
This was the smallest millipede I think I have ever seen. Obviously only 1 cm but still the legs are amazing. And when the kids touch them they curl up for protection. Then the kids pick them up and toss them outside. Even Kemiah likes these guys.
Yes, this is a slug. And yes, it's about as long as my finger. Yuck!
This is what they do when you touch them. No, I did not touch it. Xiomara was out looking at it with me and she said, "Can I touch it?" Then, without waiting for me to reply she touched it and it shrank.
Isn't that a face you could just love? Not! But I thought it was interesting so I had to share it.

That slug has a face only his mother could love.
I'm glad Kemiah is not scared of the millipeds...lets just hope they aren't the next thing she decides she needs to put up her nose :)
