First semester down... 4 more to go.

Well, Kevin took his final yesterday afternoon and said he felt good. He went into it having A's in all the subjects so he's hoping it stays that way so he'll start off medical school with a 4.o! I guess that sets the bar for... well, the rest of his life. So for his first day off he made breakfast and then went running. When he came home he showered, grabbed breakfast and all his stuff and went to study. He's going to get a head start on second semester! Way to go.

I am so glad we made it through the first semester. I have found myself contemplating life in general. We are just doing what our family has decided to do. I guess it's a little strange that we are doing it on an island in the Caribbean but we are just doing it. I teach my kids, play with my kids and do mostly the same things I would do with them any where else in the world. I guess I need to go sightseeing so that I can realized where we are really living... (I think I said that about Alaska too.)

So, knock on wood, we have had a great first semester. Here are some of the things I wanted to mention:
  • Although we have lost electricity occasionally, we have always had power when it was time for bed so we have had the comfort of A/C.
  • Although it does rain quite a bit here, we have had the blessing of always walking to Church dry.
  • Although we live near the "curve of death" on the main road, we have never had any serious incidents and have always traveled safely to and from the pool or campus.
  • Although we have had several centipedes in the house (I think the count is up to 9), no one has ever been bitten. (Kevin did wake up one night with bite marks and a pain in his toe that was pretty intense but we couldn't find whatever it was that bit him.)
  • Although the water turns brown when it rains, it has always recovered pretty quickly so I have been able to keep dishes and clothes and kids clean.
  • Although we have killed a load of cockroaches, they haven't taken control of the kitchen so I'll just keep the can of Baygon handy.
  • Although we have enjoyed this house and neighborhood, we are moving to a different house closer to campus and the pool (and we won't have to travel on the "curve of death").
  • Although we arrived in the middle of hurricane season, we only had one come near enough to cause some damage at the shoreline. (At least that's the only damage I know about.)
  • Although you might think bringing 5 small kids to an island is a little crazy, they are all very adaptable, rain or shine, and are doing fantastic.

Wow, you are such a good blogger! I've enjoyed reading through some of your posts. I hope that your new house does not have cockroaches, and I am soooo glad that you don't have to travel on the "curve of death" anymore!!
