Cabrits 4... This is a long one with lots of pictures.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... I love Cabrits National Park! The hardest part about doing this post is that I took 250+ pictures this time around and I have to look through them all, then pick out a few that are the best (in my opinion, of course) to share with you. I did notice that many of the shots are of my surroundings and not so much of the people I was with. I'll work on combining them a little more because I want to capture the kids enjoying the beautiful surrounds just as much as I want the scenery. Anyway... We went to a new part of the park that we haven't explored yet and it was really neat. Ben did fall and bonk his chin but our friend was ready with her not-so-complete First Aid Kit (that's what she said, not me). He recovered quickly and was off exploring again. We also found a fantastic view point of Douglas Bay, which is on the other side of the peninsula and it was really beautiful. We were even able to see the neighboring island, Guadeloupe. The thing I noticed about the park this time was the fallen leaves on the ground. It seriously looked like autumn time in the forest. It made the entire trip different from previous trips just because of that one element. It wasn't like all the trees were bare but the ground had lots of leaves covering it and we could crunch our way through them.

This is a picture of Prince Rupert Bay. That's the bay on our side of Cabrits. Notice the rock beach, not sand. I think I might actually like the rock beach better than the sand one because the water is really clear and you don't get sand everywhere. But I guess it's not quite as comfortable to play on or swim in.

Here's a picture of the fort wall that used to have doors on it. You can still see the hinges in the wall. I love all the ferns growing out of the wall.

This is the remains of the battery building. The tree vines were all over the place and it was way cool. This is where Ben climbed into one of the window holes and then fell down when he tried to get down by holding on to the vines. They broke above him and he dropped to the grown and his chin hit a rock. But I already talked about that.

Cool Xiomara with our friend Stefanie, and wearing Stefanie's sunglasses. Silly little girl.

Here's a great picture of Douglas Bay, the one on the north side of Cabrits. It is also a rock beach so I guess we won't be going there to play. It sure is beautiful and I love the different colors in the water.

Here's a view of Guadeloupe to the north. Maybe they were getting rained on because it looks so hazy.

Kemiah was about done with the carrier and was ready to get out and about. Kevin said I should let her walk more but it's hard enough trying to get Xiomara to keep going... Kemiah would be really slow and eating everything off the ground. I think I'd get more frustrated than anything else. Maybe one trip I'll take with just the kids and we'll go where they want to go and just see what happens.

Here is a look at the trail. Notice the leaves on the trees are green but the ground is covered with fallen leaves. If you can't tell then just take my word for it. It was really neat.

Cute girls. They shared Stefanie's sunglasses. I don't wear mine - mostly because I don't want to have funny tan lines on my face. Silly maybe, but it's true.

Neat fungus growing on the side of a stump. Just what you wanted to see, I'm sure.

Just thought I'd show you the size of some of the leaves that were on the ground. That's my size 8.5 shoe so it's not like my foot is tiny. Some of the leaves are almost as big as Xiomara and we joked about making her a dress out of the leaves.

Ben loves these seed pods. Most of the ones he finds are already split in two and he uses them as weed wackers. He liked shaking this one and hearing the seeds inside. He said he was taking it home and would take it back to America with us as a souvenir but somehow it got left behind.

Can you see the papayas in the trees?

I was so excited to see the humming birds and to be able to get some pictures of them without a chain link fence in the background. They almost seemed camera shy because they would perch on a branch just when I would get them in focus and I was ready to take the picture. It was kind of frustrating but I was patient and I think it paid off. This is only one of the many that I took.

I just wanted to show you that Kemiah did get to walk around and enjoy herself. She has a puff ball flowery thing in her hand and she thought it was so neat. It was fun to watch her find joy in that little thing.

Here is a bird that was in the tree above us while we ate lunch. I had brought some old bread and the birds were ready to eat it. It was fun to watch them come right down, grab a crumb, and then fly away.
