Spontaneous Pleasures!

I decided this morning to try kite flying again, in a different field closer to home. We went to the Annex, one of the university buildings that isn't on the main campus but is just up the hill from us on the main road. We all made it and even had a cow to accompany us. Dad even met us at the water fountain (he was studying at the Annex and just happened to come out when we got there) and came out to the field for a little break. Well, the wind was not cooperating so we didn't do much kite flying but the kids did find a couple guava trees with ripe guavas. So they had fun climbing one of the trees and eating guavas while I tried to fly Emily's kite. I eventually got it up long enough for her to hold the string for a bit, while eating a guava. Then we (I mean I) put them away and we went home so Kemiah could get a nap. I was really glad that the kids had fun even though we weren't able to get the kites up.

Then while I was starting dinner (I had to start early so it would be ready) a friend invited us to meet at the pool at 4 p.m. My first inclination was to say, "Sorry, it's too close to dinner time." But then I decided I could have dinner ready and we could take it to the pool. So that's what I did. I had just finished making muffins and started making "My favorite pasta salad" so it was all transportable. I got everything packed and we left the house before 4 (by a couple minutes)! Kemiah was on my back, Xiomara was in the stroller and the others were walking briskly. We had a great time at the pool with our friends and we all enjoyed the pasta salad and muffins. We were even able to catch the sunset and the kids watched the sun disappear at the horizon. To quote them all, "That was so cool!" Ben said, "I thought it would take an hour but it was quick." It was really neat.

So we had a great day of spontaneous fun together. Thanks for the memories kids (and friends)!
