Rainy Day Activities

These are some things we do when it rains for days on end. We get out the cards and play games. We also try to let our creative juices flow. It was fun and something different so we had a good time (for four days in a row).

Ben really enjoys trying to build with playing cards. He remembers seeing an article in a Reader's Digest magazine a long time ago that was about a man (Bryan Berg) who built amazing structures out of playing cards. It was really amazing and he may be the next great card house builder.

Eventually the kids got out these colored plastic shapes and we had a good time making decorations and pictures with them. This was my creation.

Another favorite was playing war with the cars. It's an easy game for all the kids to understand and it was fun to see them playing together. Oh wait, they do that all the time.

Kemiah missed out on some of the fun because she still requires a nap during the day. Then agian, maybe we would all be a bit less edgy and irritable if we took short naps. The trouble is, if anyone falls asleep and I try to wake them before they are ready, they are still cranky so it's a no win situation. I guess we'll just keep on trying to smile at each other.

More designs. Fun stuff. Ben was a little disappointed when he made this one and he ran out of brown pieces. I took a picture anyway because it looked neat.

Marissa made a picture of the mouse with big ears - Despereaux, a character from a cartoon movie. I thought it looked really cute.

Ben also enjoys building tanks, towers, and boats out of the shapes. It always amazes me when he creates new things.

Okay, so Kemiah doesn't sleep all the time. She is working on her letters though so that's why she may seem a little frustrated.


Emily and Marissa even got bored enough that they wanted to work on the math sticks. They have both excelled and enjoy doing these, and so does Ben, if he's in the right mood.
