What's missing?

On Wednesday morning, I realized I needed to make bread. Easy, I thought. I'll just do it at the same time I'm cooking pancakes for breakfast and then the dough can rise while we are eating and cleaning up. Then it will be ready to shape and then bake soon after and we'll be sitting pretty. Okay, tricky part was making sure I didn't burn the pancakes while I tossed stuff for the bread dough together. Then I had to knead the dough, but don't burn the pancakes. Okay, got it all together, check the recipe to make sure I didn't forget anything and set it aside. Everything else went fine as well... ate breakfast, cleaned up, had some school, shaped the loaves, and then baked them when the oven was ready. Oh I do love fresh bread and you can't get any fresher than right out of the oven. Well, we had lunch a bit later so the bread could cool a bit. I sliced the end and took a bite. Whoa! That's not right! You've got to be kidding me! I left out 1 TBS of salt... yes, I did a double batch so I had a lot of bread that didn't taste quite right. It was okay if you had stuff on it and we finished it off tonight as french toast but I certainly couldn't eat it plain. It looked so good and was so soft. Yet it was missing something that changed it and I could tell even if I had something on it but we ate it anyway. Next time I'll make sure to add the salt and hopefully I won't end up doubling it just to make sure.

I totally did the same thing this week! I forgot to add the salt to my dinner rolls and they just did not taste good. This was the first time the recipe actually worked so I was really bummed that they didn't taste good. Who would have guessed that one tsp of salt could make such a difference!
