Crescent Moon Cabins

We went on a trip Saturday (1024), to a place that is south and in the middle of the island, no beach. It was a hard drive for some reason, even though I made it just fine when I went to Aba Wavine and it was pretty much the same drive. The kids didn't like it much either but no one threw up. (I guess I need to make sure they take the anti-motion sickness pill.) It was beautiful and amazing and a little bit off the beaten path. The people who own it are from the U.S. and have a few cabins on a hill that are nice. They have a nice dining area, small pool, goats, chickens, a green house where they grow the stuff they eat, a river, and lots of other things. It was fun for all of us. The best part for the kids was the pool. (I guess I need to take them to the pool near home more often.) One of my favorite parts was the school that the woman has set up in the jungle. She used to be a Montessori teacher back in the States so that's what she has set up in a building that was tucked up high and in the woods. It was really nice, with big windows, skylights and all the stuff for the kids to play with = learning.

Just got out of the van and we are all feeling much better.

The view from the dining area, looking over the plunge pool and past one of the cabins.

Taking a walk through their grounds. It was really neat.

My kids looking at the chickens. They are kept in a pen most of the day to keep them safe from snakes, so my kids couldn't chase them or play with them or pet them.

Here's the river that runs through their property. It was a little low the day we were there. I bet it's much higher now after all the rain we have received.

I asked if I could take a picture of Ben and Emily next to the river. Ben said no and Emily posed. I decided I didn't need the river.

Can you believe the size of that leaf? She walked right by it and didn't even notice that it was bigger than her entire body. Maybe we could make natural umbrellas out of them?

You know they love to read when they will do it anywhere. Even if they are dripping wet and hungry.

This was our lunch. A salad with tomatoes, avocado, cucumbers, and different kinds of lettuce. Then you have a slice of star fruit and the orange thing is papaya. The quiche looking thing is a fritta (egg omlete thing). It was all a bit different so my kids only ate what they liked

Yes, Marissa is walking with Ben on her back. The water wasn't very deep but it was cold and refreshing, and the kids had a blast.

Here are some pictures from the school house. It was really amazing.

Really neat plant. The leaves grow in a stair step orientation. It was really cool.

The property was a used place with old buildings and stuff. Here are some of the things left over from it's previous life.

Here's a neat town called St. Joseph. I have alwasy wanted to stop to get some pictures of it so this time I told the driver to stop. Everyone was okay with it and we all took some pictures. It's just so neat to see the town going back from the sea. That big white thing is a really big Church.

Yes, I also made the drive stop so I could take a picture of this bus stop. It's the neatest one I have seen on the island. It even has a waterfall painted on the back wall. It was next to a river too so it was just neat.
