Bug bites gone bad!

I can honestly say that I have never seen these types of reactions to bug bites, ever. And since we have been here over 2 months now, the reactions have actually changed over time.

I must say, first off, that I am so glad that Emily does not react like she did previously to bites. Before, she would get huge welts and swell up at the sight of a bug bite. Now she just gets red spots - unless she itches the skin raw and makes sores but that's her doing, not the bugs. Unfortunately, when we got here we all had a ton of bites.

Fortunately, as time has passed the bugs either don't bite as much or our bodies have adjusted so we handle the bites better.

Unfortunately, a bug found Xiomara very desirable and she has been getting bitten quite a bit. As the days wore on I watched the bites turn from red bumps, to blisters, to sores and then they just kept expanding. She ended up with these scabbed sores, mainly on her legs but other places too, with blisters on the edges that would just keep making the sore bigger. It was really weird.
Fortunately, I finally went to the pharmacy and got a tube of cream that the doctor had prescribed when I complained about bug bites back in September to see if it would help my little girl. I am happy to report that it really has done wonders and the sores are healing up nicely. I'm sure she'll have little scars but maybe they won't be so noticeable once we get her new skin tanned up! Which might lead to skin cancer but that's a whole nother ball game.

This picture was taken on Oct 27th.

This was taken on October 29th. You can see the edges of the sore blistering.

This one was taken November 1st. Now the sore is getting bigger.

Here's a view of her right leg. You can see the two blisters on her knee and the two old scabbed up sores. What I did miss was the group just further down that I actually covered with a bandaid because they started to ooze. I kept a bandaid on that cluster and they didn't scab or spread like the others. I just couldn't keep 8 bandaids on this active little girl.

Yes, the bug even bit her on the nose, just inside so it was really irritating. Poor girl.
