I have often noticed that the sun sets around the time we sit down to eat dinner, if I'm on time. I have enjoyed many a sunset from the porch as I finish cooking dinner but I wanted to see it at the coast. So I decided to make dinner early one night and take the kids down to the coast. It's not very far from our house - it's also not much of a beach. Kevin made it home just in time to grab some grub and was back to studying while we made our little walk. I wasn't planning on having the kids play near the water, and certainly not IN the water but when they were more interested in searching for shells in the rocky shore and tossing rocks into the sea than watching the sunset, I let them go look for shells, but they had to stay out of the water.
Kemiah and I enjoyed the scene from the side of the road. I was a little disappointed in the sunset - it wasn't nearly as colorful as I have seen them but it was something different and we all enjoyed the outing.

Ben, being a little more outgoing than normal, talked with a boy who looked like he was just coming home from school. Ben showed the boy his rock collection and the shells he was proud of. He even gave the boy his favorite rock. I was proud of him for being so friendly.

So, since we had so much fun that time... I did it again a week later. This time we went early to campus to see the sunset and eat dinner before the Friday night movie at the university. They were showing WALL-E so we took the kids. It costs us 10 EC, the kids are free (divide that by 2.67 and you'll have the U.S. dollar amount). This outing was a little more exciting because the fish were near the surface and there were a few pelicans that were diving to catch the fish. We all thought that was pretty cool. They would just splash down and eat a fish or two and then fly away. They didn't fly low and scoop the fish up like I thought they might. Ben asked tonight if we could do it again - he said we had enough time to make the salad and go down and hunt for shells. I guess we do need to to it again - maybe Friday.

Here are some other sunset shots taken from the porch. I like the color in these and I'll probably keep taking them because I just think sunsets are pretty. I missed a red one the night the tall ship was here but maybe I'll see it again (the red sunset).
