Crab time!

No really, we spent some good quality time with some crabs that our neighbor, Curvin, brought over to share with the kids. I'm not really sure if the Dominicans eat the crabs but we sure enjoyed playing with them. The kids were all a little standoffish at first but after a bit Marissa got up the courage to hold it. You could tell she really wanted to so I knew it was just a matter of time.

Emily eventually decided it looked like fun and she wanted to hold one too. Not that they are cuddly and lovable, but they sure dance well when assisted by us humans. Ben never really warmed up to them enough to hold it but he did want to trap them in the box we had for them and he also wanted to see them fight. He is definitely a boy. Xiomara kept a safe distance and stayed on the porch with me. She doesn't like things that are cute and cuddly so I wasn't surprised that she didn't want anything to do with them.

Here is Curvin, helping Marissa get a good hold on the pinchers so that she can hold the crab without getting pinched.

Success and delight shine in her face. She is such a critter lover. Curvin is the neighbor with the momma goats, and he also has chickens! The first time Marissa went over to his house she ended up holding a chicken under each arm. He found that really amusing - he had never seen anything like it. Marissa was in her element and really missing our chickens from Alaska.
